When you enter the Show of Hands Gallery, you’re likely to be warmly greeted and assisted by Michele Zembow, a former Psychologist, retired since moving to NC in 2011. Although she enjoyed making art since high school, Michele only resumed the pursuit of ceramics, watercolor painting, and jewelry making in recent years. Today, you will find her busily placing orders, arranging and rearranging the displays, exchanging stories with customers, wrapping pretty gift bags, and applying her intuitive sense of humor and aesthetics to Show of Hands Gallery. What a delightful adventure for her!
Lee Kazanas, a professional potter and former gallery owner for decades, provides Show of Hands with an extensive collection of functional porcelain and stoneware pottery, recently creating many lovely pieces of agateware as well. Alongside the ceramic work of several other talented ceramicists at Show of Hands, you’ll find Lee’s wonderful decorative bowls, vases, trays, and mugs, along with sponge holders, garlic scrapers, pinched pitchers, posey pots, French butter keepers, batter bowls, and berry bowls…there’s almost nothing he can’t fashion from/with clay. You can also find Lee building displays, installing lighting, and generally improving the look and function of the Gallery…and after all of that, he will sometimes help you find things in the store as well!
Julia Kennedy, a retail whiz, brings many years of experience to her role as SOH’s #1 employee! An accomplished abstract oil painter in her own right, Julia is both Michele’s trusty right hand, readily volunteering for anything and everything needed to keep the Gallery humming.
